Dear First United Family,

If I had to take a guess, I am assuming that many of you are holding onto some level of anxiety today. Perhaps it’s tomorrow’s election. Maybe it’s our ongoing pandemic. It very well could be a combination of many things.

I recently reengaged with a text and choral work that really speaks to me in difficult times, and perhaps it will bring you peace today as we look to the week ahead. Enjoy Frank Ticheli’s Earth Song, sung here by VOCES8. Here is the text:

Sing, be, live, see
This dark stormy hour
The wind, it stirs
The scorched Earth cries out in vain

Oh war and power, you blind and blur
The torn heart cries out in pain

But music and singing have been my refuge
And music and singing shall be my light

A light of song, shining strong
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Through darkness and pain and strife
I’ll sing, I’ll be, live, see

-Frank Ticheli

As you enter this week, I invite you to sing, be, live, and sing. May God’s peace be with you all.

-Samuel Grace
