Time to be Wildly Welcoming

In my first newsletter entry, I talked about reading Maurice Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are” and finding meaning in one particular passage: ‘The walls became the world all around.’

If you were to look out the church windows this week, the world all around has traffic snarls, long lines at Target and Kroger, and sidewalks full of hellos and goodbyes as families from around the globe drop loved ones off at college. Now is the time to be wildly welcoming!

Join us this Saturday, August 19 from 11am-2pm as we try something new: WelcomeFest 2023. Join First United friends (including the People’s Market) and family as we put out the welcome mat for our wider Bloomington community. How can you get involved?

Promote – Help spread the word about the event!

Attend – Show up to the event and bring a friend (or several)!

Volunteer – There will be work to do before, during, and after the event. Sign up here

Bring a Yard Game – We can always use more games!

Sign up here

Donate – We have some food needs for the event or you can make a financial contribution. Sign up here

As a final note, all games, music, and food offered by First United will be free to the community. Any donations received during the event will be given to IU’s Crimson Cupboard food pantry to combat food insecurity on campus.

We hope to see you on Saturday!
