Our final event in the Board of Christian Education’s Summer Series has been rescheduled from August 25th to September 8th, from 5-7 at the Islamic Center: 1925 Atwater Ave, Bloomington, IN 47401.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to make it to one of our events (or even if you have!), please consider attending this one.
Our last event will be an interfaith dialogue with members of Beth Shalom, the Islamic Center, and First United. This year, we are inviting members of the Jewish and Muslim communities to attend this event, along with a representative from each organization. To begin the event, we will be eating a potluck dinner together. We are asking participants to bring a dish that represents their faith in some way, as well as abides by the dietary restrictions of the other faiths involved. The easiest way to do this is to make your dish vegetarian, though seafood such as tuna and salmon will also work. Bringing a dish is completely optional. This dinner will give us the opportunity to intermingle a bit ahead of our discussion.
For the discussion portion, we will have some prepared questions but mostly will leave it an open discussion where anyone can ask or answer questions. Our primary goal is to learn more about how each organization is involved in the community and how we can provide support to each other and learn about opportunities to collaborate on mutual goals. We believe this is an especially critical time in our political climate to be having these discussions, so please do join us if you are able.
Since we are asking people to provide food, please RSVP if you intend to bring something, so that we have an idea of the types of food we may need to supplement. Please email the board chair, Don Wooldridge, at firstname.lastname@example.org or the board’s email at email@example.com, or contact a member of the board to let us know what you plan to bring, if anything.
Please join us!
Music Director Search
It is with great sadness that First United Church announces Vini Frizzo’s resignation as Music Director. He has accepted a wonderful full-time position as Director of Music Ministries at Highland Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, beginning August 15th. Though we are sorry to see him leave, we are excited for his future and wish him, Ashley, and Jo the very best. Please know that church leadership is hard at work to ensure a strong future for our rich music program. A search will begin within the week and auditions will be held later in August. We hope to have a new director within the month of September.

Centering Prayer Embraces Summer
The cool quiet of the First United chapel is perfect for summertime contemplation. In keeping with the laid back tempo of summer in Bloomington, some Sunday mornings there will be some quiet music and a reading. Other times the space will be just quiet. Candles and meditations are always there for you. All that is really required for you to seek the presence of God is you. Sundays from 9:45 – 10:15am.
Join First United’s website Directory! You can now create a profile for yourself in the secure online directory, access member-only files, and RSVP for events.
