SPIRITUAL READING GROUP
This Saturday our discussion will be about The Disordered Mind by Eric R. Kandel, who is a recipient of the 2000 Nobel Prize his research on the physiological basis of memory storage in neurons. This book is for the general readers. Through reading this, we will deepen our understanding of thought, feeling, behavior, memory, and creativity and understand the big question of how billions of neurons generate consciousness itself for spirituality cultivation. All are welcome to attend. Bring your questions! For more information, please contact YouShin Choi (youschoi@gmail.com).
Time: 11:00-12:30

Summer Series
The Board of Christian Education is hosting three special events this summer with activities for all ages. The first Summer Series event will be TODAY from 4-6pm at the church. Participants will choose to attend three of the following sessions: a church scavenger hunt, games and crafts, hymn singing, a library presentation, a discussion on gender identity, and a discussion on the history of the “Holy Land.” These activities represent different parts of our church life: our building and grounds, Play Friday, the choir, the library, Justice Forum, and our Tuesday Adult Discussion Group. Nursery care and light refreshments will be provided. Future events will be held on July 21 and August 25. All are welcome. Please join us!
Centering Prayer Embraces Summer
The cool quiet of the First United chapel is perfect for summertime contemplation. In keeping with the laid back tempo of summer in Bloomington, some Sunday mornings there will be some quiet music and a reading. Other times the space will be just quiet. Candles and meditations are always there for you. All that is really required for you to seek the presence of God is you. Sundays from 9:45 – 10:15am.
First United’s new website is up! You can now create a profile for yourself in the secure online directory, access member-only files, and RSVP for events. You can still see weekly announcements and listen to sermon recordings too. To register, please go to http://www.firstuc.org/register. To see an instructional video for how to fill out your profile, please go to http://bit.ly/JoinFirstUC.

Nametags.
In the pew registry visitors will find paper name tags which they are invited to use. If you would like a more permanent name tag which attaches by magnet, please make a note in the pew registry or see Florence Shelton or one of the ushers. Long-term First United Church people, if you have a name tag, please wear it. They’re so helpful, in learning who is who. Your Committee on Community Development thanks you!
Bringing Joy To Jail Inmates.
Did you know that a small but dedicated group of First United folks brings a little joy into the local jail by performing Jail BINGO twice a month? We are looking for folks that can commit to two hours for one Tuesday per month to let their inner game show host shine. Will you help? It is very easy but it can be a little intimidating at first.
After getting over that bump you will quickly see the joy in the faces of the inmates as you bring them treats, needed hygiene items, snacks and some fun. Please talk to or email Dave Meyer (dwm@davemeyer.org), the organizer.
