Racial Justice Lunch & Learns — NEW Book, NEW Day, NEW Time In an effort to become more accessible to our congregation members and friends, our Racial Justice Book Club will shift its meetings to the first and third Thursdays of each month, 12pm-1pm after the start of the new year (no meetings in December). These lunch & learn conversations will take place via Zoom (click here; or use Meeting ID: 830 8049 3159 and Passcode: 452440). First United has been invited to participate in the Bloomington Multi-faith Alliance Faith for Racial Equity (BMA F4RE) book read by reading and exploring “The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together“ by Heather McGhee. We will spread our reading and discussion of this book over three months to allow adequate time for conversation and digestion of the ideas presented. And we encourage participants to take part in the BMA F4RE capstone event in late March/early April 2022 (information forthcoming). Our “The Sum of Us” reading/discussion schedule for the month of January is as follows: January 6th (Introduction) and January 20th (Chapter 1: An Old Story: The Zero-Sum Hierarchy & Chapter 2: Racism Drained the Pool). Currently, “The Sum of Us” is only available in hard copy and e-book versions. If the cost of a hard copy book is cost prohibitive, please contact Pastor Jessica for confidential financial assistance. We hope you will join us. For more information please contact Laurie Eynon at leynon73@icloud.com.
