Adults
Following Jesus is hard work.
We understand that living the Christian faith can be hard work, and it is easier and more rewarding if it can be done in a group with laughter and open sharing. If you participate, chances are that you will learn something you didn’t even know you wanted to learn.
Off-Topic Scripture Circle
Mondays from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. via Zoom (click here); Year-round
Adults are invited to check in and explore the week’s lectionary scripture readings in a casual setting where you will never be asked to leave your brain or your heart at the door. Engage in conversations with one another to explore issues and ideas that impact our lives. Joining in these conversations and learning opportunities will allow you to ask questions in a safe place, meet new people, and build deeper relationships with folks you already know.
Tuesday Discussion & Café
Tuesdays from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. in Roger Williams Hall and via Zoom (click here); Year-round
Join this adult study class as they regularly explore a new topic in great depth, usually by watching a DVD from the “Wondrium” series. Our current study (now thru Aug. 15; no meeting July 4) is a 36-session adventure exploring “The History of Christianity II: From the Reformation to the Modern Megachurch” presented by Dr. Molly Worthen. After a time of informal conversation, we engage in thought-provoking theological study and discussion as we explore the story of Christianity as it transformed from the end of the Middle Ages into the diverse global religion of today. A couple of past series have been The New Testament. Presented by Dr. Bart Ehrman and “Confucius, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad” by Prof. Mark W. Muesse. Previous participation and perfect attendance are not required.
Sermon Talk Backs
Sundays from 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall; Jan – May; Aug – Dec
Once each month (usually on 3rd Sundays), you are invited to grab a drink and a snack and say “hello” to some church friends, and then gather near the fireplace to engage in informal conversation spurred by the day’s sermon. Share with fellow congregants how the sermon connected with you and your life and ask any questions of clarification or curiosity and be enriched by their sharing. Pastor Jessica will be available to address questions, elaborate further on the day’s message, and share additional thoughts she may have had while preparing her sermon.
Feminist Women’s Book Club
Second Sundays from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. in Roger Williams and via Zoom; Year-round
An engaging group of women who gather for a lively discussion once a month. We read recent fiction “by women, for women or about women.” Members are equally split among women from our church and the community. Feminist women of all ages are invited to join us.
