We take the Bible seriously, not literally.
At First United Church, our sermons are meant to challenge, inspire, nurture, and prod. We join with millions of other Christians around the world in following the Revised Common Lectionary, a three-year cycle of readings that takes us through a majority of the Bible. Each Sunday, our preachers choose from four potential texts for their sermon. Typically there is one from the Hebrew Bible, a Psalm, a reading from one of the four Gospels, and an Epistle. Sometimes contemporary readings are used to enhance the worship experience. Our ministers invite the congregation along as they explore the historical and cultural background of the text, examine links to current events and issues, and challenge all of us to figure out how we can allow the Bible to sneak into our lives and alter our daily living.
