What is Heiny Helpers?

The mission of Heiny Helpers is to provide cloth diapers and cloth diapering support to families with low income in the Bloomington, Indiana area. Heiny Helpers was founded in 2011 by three moms at First United who wanted to help families with low income save money on diapers and keep disposable diapers out of landfills. Since its inception, Heiny Helpers has provided over 150 children in the Bloomington area with a full-time set of cloth diapers, keeping almost 800,000 disposables out of the landfill and saving local families over $300,000.

How are we involved?

Heiny Helpers has a board of directors that reports to First United Church’s governing structure. The three co-founders of the organization are active members of our congregation and serve on the board. Our building houses the diapers and provides staff support, and families come to the church to receive their diapers.

How can I help?

If you have experience using cloth diapers and would be interested in meeting with clients, we’d love to hear from you. You can contact us about being more involved. Additionally, we are always open to financial contributions and gently-used diapers. Visit the Heiny Helpers website for more information.
