Board of Christian Worship seeks Communion Assistants Are you intrigued by the traditions of Holy Communion? Are you interested in serving at First United on a part-time basis with no meeting obligations? The Board of Christian Worship seeks two Communion Assistants to help with setting up and cleaning up Communion. Communion Assistants will be called upon 4-6 times a year to prepare Communion beginning at 10 a.m. on Communion Sundays and to clean up after Communion till approximately 12:15. If this interests you, please contact Eric Metzler, Chair, Board of Christian Worship, worship@FirstUC.org.
SAVE THE DATES: The Board of Christian Education has been working on some intergenerational activity afternoons as an alternative to a traditional VBS experience. More information will be coming, but please save the following Sunday afternoons for fun and fellowship: June 11 we will have a potluck lunch followed by activities, July 9 we will have afternoon activities followed by a communal dinner meal, and August 6th will be a fun end of summer game day. More specific times and activity details will follow in the next couple of weeks. If anyone is interested in leading a specific activity or have other ideas, please talk to someone on the Board of Christian Education or email Hopi Stosberg at firstname.lastname@example.org.
USHERS NEEDED. More ushers are needed throughout May. It is an easy way to get acquainted with folks here at First United. You will be given instructions. If you are available any Sunday in May please let the church office or Phyllis Eads who is the Usher Captain for May know. email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org Thank you!
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING AND PITCH-IN LUNCH. The annual congregational meeting will be held Sunday, May 21 directly after church in Fellowship Hall. Please join us for food, fellowship, and conversation about future initiatives at First United. Everyone is welcome.
PHOTOS NEEDED. Do you have pictures of events at First United over the past year? Play Fridays, Church Work Days, Shelter Staffers, Choir Practice…any shots will work. Please email photos to Sara Ivey Lucas at email@example.com so they can be included in the photo display for the annual meeting. If you have printed photos, or a large collection, talk to Sara about how they can be shared for this project. Photos are needed by Sunday, May 14 at 5:00 p.m.
BE THE CHURCH. Throughout the month of May Outreach is asking you to help us to identify instances of Being Church. An instance of Being Church is helping those who are in need, feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, visiting the prisoner, advocating for those on the margins.
Maybe you volunteered. Or someone you know. Or gave money. Or marched. Or called an elected official. Or wrote a letter to the editor. For the poor. The homeless. The prisoner. The racial minority. The religious minority. The earth. Being the Church is anything we do to improve the earth for all God’s people.
Please write these Being Church instances down on slips of paper that will be available throughout the month of May and add them to our collection. These will be displayed for Pentecost on June 4 to celebrate the birthday of Being Church. Because we need more rather than fewer—and you were Church more than once—you are encouraged to be generous with writing down instances of Being Church.
CHURCH YARD WORK. Laura Kao of the Board of Building and Grounds will be putting in an hour of yard work on Thursday mornings at 8:30 whenever she is in town this growing season. She invites you to join her any Thursday. If you let her know by e-mail that you are interested, she’d know to tell you when she won’t be there. firstname.lastname@example.org
MOWER SUBS NEEDED: Are you willing to use the church’s riding mower at least once this growing season? We need a stable of willing substitute mowers to help when Chelsea Schoch is rained out on a Thursday. No one has signed up yet on the sheet by the kitchen. Could you? Also, we need people who would weed whack any time. Questions: email@example.com
