PENTECOST SUNDAY – MAY 20
Defined as the Christian festival celebrating the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus after his Ascension, Pentecost always falls on the seventh Sunday after Easter, on the fiftieth day and hence its name. Pentecost is widely revered as the church’s birthday and the liturgical color for the day is red.
At First United, we will be celebrating the day with a large birthday cake to have with our monthly church potluck, red vestments, hymns, songs, and liturgies all related to themes of the Holy Spirit or Pentecost.
Please wear RED on May 20 and be ready to celebrate the occasion. We want to look more spirited than an IU basketball game!
Blessings, Eric Metzler, Chair, Board of Christian Worship
DISCIPLE BIBLE STUDY THIS FALL
DISCIPLE is an exciting Bible study opportunity to explore the Bible and your faith while surrounded by, encouraged by, and challenged by others in the class. This class is not meant to offer answers but encourages you to develop and explore your own questions.
DISCIPLE is a program of disciplined Bible study aimed at developing bold Christian leaders. DISCIPLE draws on the work of scholars, personal Bible reading and study, and dynamic group discussion to aid in understanding the Bible and how it relates to live out your values. DISCIPLE will begin in September for 34 weeks with breaks and complete in May.
