CCD FELLOWSHIP CAMPAIGN. In an effort to build our collective skills in “doing church,” the Committee on Community Development will be highlighting items we can do to make First United Church the nurturing church home we want it to be. These short messages begin today with John Spain, convener of the CCD, and they will continue for several springtime Sundays.
THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE (NC) is working to fill vacancies on the Boards in preparation for this year’s elections. The Council has set May 6 as the date the congregation will vote to elect the nominated slate; thus the closing date for nominations from the congregation is April 29th. According to the By-laws: “Members of the congregation may submit nominations for church offices to the Nominating Committee during the period from the announcement of the Nominating Committee until one week prior to the election. Nominations from the congregation must be made in writing. Persons nominated by the congregation must declare their willingness to serve before they can be placed on the ballot.”
We would welcome your input. Self-nominations are always appropriate. You may send your nomination on/before April 29 to any of the NC members: Pat Martin (Co-Chair), email@example.com; Sara Ivey Lucas (Co-Chair), firstname.lastname@example.org; Laura Kao: email@example.com; Sam Troxal: firstname.lastname@example.org; Hallie Devido: email@example.com; and Hopi Stosberg firstname.lastname@example.org.

FRIDAYS AT FIRST UNITED
Play Friday: The next Play Friday will be on Friday, April 13 from 5:30-8 (or when the euchre ends!). Please note the earlier start time. Pizza will still arrive at 6, but crafts and games will be ready for play starting at 5:30. Play Friday is a great event for all ages. In April Play Friday will feature a double elimination euchre tournament! Grab your favorite partner and let Hopi know you are coming, or just show up that night and we can work you in. If you don’t have a partner to play with, sign up as a single player and you will get matched with a partner. Tournament play starts at 6:45. It helps with food planning if you RSVP to Hopi Stosberg at email@example.com.
Just Friday: Just Friday is a monthly discussion group taking place on the last Friday of each month from 7-9 p.m. Each evening there will be a media presentation and we will discuss various issues relating to Justice. There will be light refreshment, no child care provided. From March-May there will be a focus on health and justice. There are many justice issues related to health, including access to quality care, health insurance, and availability of healthy food. We will focus discussion and media in the following areas:
April 27: Navigating the System-You need a phd for that!
May 25: Healthy Food-can you buy that near you?
